Notes Day 2

For the Warm Up, we discussed how the pecking party alludes to society. People will always find the wrong in one another, even in wide scale, to take attention away from themselves. This ultimately destroys everybody and contributes a  lot of bad vibes. In regards to the rabbits and wolfs, we discussed fight or flight instinct. A person's first perception of a situation shows what kind of person they are. Past experiences contribute as well. Neither are perfect; rabbits are submissive and do not stand up whereas wolves are stubborn and aggressive. A happy medium is good. (a cat perhaps?) They are both opposites and two of the same do not get along well. They balance each other out well. We talked a little about the fog, going into our last discussion. We talked about how the mental institutes accept different sort of patients nowadays. People are still commonly labeled as their diseases. We all read The Fault in Our Stars for ALIS and made a connection there. Nurse Ratched is a wolf. She tries to be the leader of the wolf pack. She has a very strong intimidation factor as well as a good sense of every body's insecurities. She is very manipulating, but she has a sly way of sugar coating it. She obviously gains power within the hospital. She has no power in the outside world so she tries to gain it in another area of life. We all agreed that something must have happened to her where she was controlled and her control in the hospital is where it cycles back for her. The black boys are a reflection of time. Being referred to as the black boys emphasizes the fact that they are nothing more than aids to the nurses. When they  molested the patients, that is their sick way of yearning for their own slice of power. Bromden narrates the story because he has an unbais perspective. Everyone believes he is deaf and dumb so he was a broad view of the scene. He is almost a wallflower. Also, the patients are closer with each other than having per say, a nurse narrate the novel. The movies portray a crazy person as extremely phsycotic. A joker like character. The patients have to control of how the outside world looks. The conception of time was interesting to all of us. We thought it was another power thing and just goes to show how unconnected they are from the real world. McMurphy is keeping quiet about Bromden because he can use it to his advantage. It also carries the potential to create a secret friendship and ally. The combine is the idea that society tries to control people people however we discussed that the amount of impact society has depends on the person. His dream shows what a hard time he has distinguishing reality from the real world. It definitely reflects something about his life but we don't understand it enough quite yet to know what it means. Bromdens perspective really paralyzes his conception of reality. For the Closing Activity, we all decided we were in between a wolf and a rabbit.
